Argyle's National Merit Semifinalists
Argyle has TWO National Merit Scholars this year! Let's put this into perspective... Less than 1% of U.S. high school seniors are named semifinalists! Argyle has TWO of them!!! Liberty Christian School's Samuel Aton and Argyle High School's Drew Mackereth were named National Merit Semifinalists this month. The National Merit Scholarship Corporation selected Drew & Samuel from more than 1.3 million juniors in about 21,000 high schools nationwide. They made the cut with their 2023 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. About half of the semifinalists will be named finalists and half of those finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship, earning the title of National Merit Scholar. Nearly $26 million will be awarded to all winners this Spring, 2025. Interesting tidbit: Drew is a legacy Semifinalist. His older brother was also named a National Merit Semifinalist two years ago.

Town Hall TLCOur Town Hall required some maintenance in September. Those in attendance at the last Council meeting were probably heated... and it wasn't the presentations! A new A/C unit was installed to replace the broken one that serviced Council Chambers. The dumpster enclosure gate was repaired with hinges being welded to the frame. Landscape beautification is underway on the front of Town Hall. NOTE: BIG thanks to our Public Works Director Bobby Johnston. Under his leadership these last few months, improvements have been made across the Town's facilities and roads. He has enhanced the operational efficiency of the department and... most importantly: enhanced community safety. Give Bobby a pat on the back when you see him around town!

 Honoring Officers Loyd and Mullinax
Hometown HeroesOn July 9th, Officer Loyd was dispatched to a construction site regarding a worker that had fallen from a roof. She arrived to find an unconscious individual with no pulse. Officer Loyd administered CPR for several minutes while Officer Mullinax got an ambulance to the scene. The construction worker was rushed to the hospital and survived the fall. Several surgeries for broken bones are upcoming yet the man's life was saved. For that lifesaving measure, Officer Loyd received a formal department commendation, the Lifesaving Award, and Officer Mullinax was awarded a Certificate of Merit. The awards were presented at the August Town Council meeting by Sergeant Miller.

In other police news...Did you know that the UNT Student Police Academy is an Argyle PD class? Did you know that our own Chief Jackson started the classes at the university? Impressive! Our own Argyle police teach the class, too! In preparation for the school year starting, both Argyle PD and Argyle ISD PD toured all schools to familiarize themselves with the layouts. Emergency preparedness is always a top priority for our community. At September's wildly popular Argyle Farmers Market, the police brought some fun cars for residents to see. The Touch a Truck Event is a highlight for all ages! While we still miss Sophia in the Argyle PD Property Tech position, the station was buzzing with interviews for the open Property & Evidence Technician job. Open positions are posted on the town's website!
