MIKE SIMS, Town Manager

In a Youth in Government program at Denton High School, our group was able to spend the day with Denton Mayor Ray Stephens, City Manager Lloyd Harrell and other staff.  That experience inspired me and gave me confidence to move into the world of local government service.  I earned my Bachelor's of Science in Public Affairs from Indiana University.   My career started at the North Central Texas Council of Governments where I spent 15 years working with the Regional Transportation Council and learning from a wonderful team of staff and elected officials.  While at NCTCOG, I earned a Master's in Economics from UTA.  After moving to Terrell, I served as Assistant City Manager of Terrell and Deputy Executive Director of STAR Transit.  I was honored to become the Terrell City Manager in 2018, leading Terrell through a period of high population, retail and employment growth.  In 2025, the Town of Argyle welcomed me back to Denton County as Town Manager where I now serve to preserve a unique way of life in the great cross timbers oasis that is Argyle, TX.
